Citation Guidance: In some governance structures, performance targets cascade from the board of directors to the chief executive officer, management, and other personnel, and performance is evaluated at each of these levels. The board of directors evaluates the performance of the chief executive officer, who in turn evaluates the management team, and so on. At each level, adherence to the core values and desired culture behaviors is evaluated, and rewards are allocated or disciplinary action is applied as appropriate. The board may also conduct a self-evaluation to assess its own strengths and identify opportunities to improve enterprise risk management.
